Chino, CA | University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz. was host to round four of the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. 54,274 fans were on-hand and all of the action was broadcast live on Fox Sports One.
Weston Peick suffered a hard crash in the first practice session and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. He was unable to compete in Phoenix. His injuries and time needed for recovery will be updated this week, however it does appear he will need at least several weeks to heal. Jake Weimer continues to substitute for Justin Barcia, who is recovering from a wrist injury. Barcia was just cleared to begin riding and is working on reacclimating himself to race speed so he can return to racing, probably within the next two to three weeks. Weimer transferred to the main event through Semi Two. In the Main Event Weimer crashed in the sand section early in the race, he was unable to regain his rhythm and finished in 21 st place.
In the 250SX West Class Phillip Nicoletti transferred directly to the Main Event through Heat Race Two. He began the Main Event in seventh position and started moving forward during the early laps. On lap seven, after moving up to fifth place he came up short on the triple jump and jammed a finger so badly it popped out of place momentarily. Nicoletti persevered but dealing with the pain slowed his pace, he was still able to earn ninth for the night.
The next stop on the tour is Oakland Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, Calif. on Feb 4. The race will air on Fox Sports Two starting at 7:00 p.m. (EST).
